1985年，Ashlee Simpson出生在美国德克萨斯州的Waco市，作为美国著名的偶像女明星Jessica Simpson的妹妹，虽然Jessica Simpson在各种“最不适合唱歌明星”评选中屡屡名列前茅，但是她的妹妹却比她在音乐发展上要成功和顺利许多。2004年，19岁的AshleeSimpson的首张个人处女作专辑《Autobiography》早在发行之初就表现出了远胜过姐姐的咄咄逼人之势，加上Geffen公司成功的商业运作，这张专辑在发行首周就暴风雨般的以首周39万8千张的销量宣告了这位歌坛新偶像的诞生，并且如愿以偿的摘取了Billboard200排行榜的冠军，这是就连她的明星姐姐都从来没有达到过的成绩。

如果说Jessica Simpson是那种以舞曲风格作品为主的相对老套的偶像流行音乐的话，那么AshleeSimpson则显示出了更多新世纪之后的偶像流行乐发展特点，略带有些摇滚和朋克风格的作品使她更向AvrilLavigne式的新流行偶像靠拢。
